THE WORLD OF COCKTAIL
Cocktails: TASTE REVELATIONS IN A GLASS
Cocktails are being mixed, consumed, and enjoyed almost all over the world. This comes as no surprise, because among the countless recipes out there everybody is able to find something. But what exactly is a cocktail, what distinguishes it from a long drink or highball, and how can you optimize your own mixology experience at home?
What is a Cocktail?
In short: a cocktail is a mixed alcoholic drink. This means that a cocktail recipe must contain at least two ingredients, one of which is a spirit. But the fascination with cocktail mixology goes much further: countless ingredients create a variety of recipes that take cocktail enthusiasts on new sensory journeys.
COCKTAIL, LONG DRINK OR HIGHBALL?
Besides cocktails, bar menus often include long drinks and highballs. These are not completely different recipes, but rather cocktail variations. A long drink consists of a spirit and an alcohol-free mixer. The ingredients are often served separately – as is the case with a gin and tonic for example. We speak of a highball when a carbonated drink is poured as a filler.
MIXING AT HOME AS A COCKTAIL ENTHUSIAST?
Not only bartenders can mix cocktails – it is also possible at home without much mixology-experience. Most of the time, recipe suggestions specify exactly how the drink is prepared. To be on the safe side, we give you a few tips on how you can take your guests on an aromatic journey of discovery.
MIXING COCKTAILS AT HOME: 6 PRO TIPS
- Only alcoholic ingredients? Stir.
- More than one non-alcoholic ingredient? Shake!
- Carbonation included? Without shaker!
- Shake shaker for 10-12 seconds
